The City of North Charleston is planning a fantastic FREE July 4th celebration at beautiful Riverfront Park on Tuesday, July 4, 2006 from 5:00PM-10:00PM. Concerts and fun children's activities take place throughout the late afternoon and a grand fireworks display over the water concludes the evening with a BANG!
Enjoy a Country music concert by one of the hottest new groups in the Southeast, Shane Clark and th Dakota Road Show, from 5:00-6:30PM. The South Carolina native is posed to become Music City's next overnight success story. Shane Clark, blind since birth, is now a senior student at the College of Charleston and recognized as a phenomenal vocalist and musician. His band has opened for virtually every major label Country Music artist touring the state in both large and small venues.
The ever-popular vocalist, Ann Caldwell, and her band will perform a fantastic Jazz Concert from 7:00-8:00PM. Ann has performed around the Lowcountry in small clubs and large events. Her smooth, sultry voice delights audiences wherever she goes.
The Charleston Symphony Orchestra takes the Performance Pavilion at 8:30PM with a masterful selection of musical favorites and patriotic marches. The Grand Finale performance will conclude with the Symphony's music synchronized to the fireworks display over the Cooper River.
Riverfront Park is located in the Navy Yard at Noisette, easily accessible from Hwy 526 or I-26. Enter the former Charleston Naval Base by the McMillan Ave. gate and turn left onto Hobson Ave. Look for the park sign on the right. Ample free parking is available.
Guests are invited to bring their lawn chairs and blankets to relax and enjoy being together with family and friends. Visitors may walk the gently curving walkways along the river to view the National Outdoor
Sculpture Exhibition currently on display. A component of the 2006 North Charleston Arts Festival, this first annual show features fifteen sculptures by eleven artists
from eight states. Children can enjoy the synchronized play fountain or the oversized sandbox. Fishermen may take advantage of the "Admiral's Fishing Pier". Food vendors will be on site or guests may bring their own picnic supper.
The Park opened to the public last July 4th and has become a favorite setting for residents and visitors. Set on the banks of the beautiful Cooper River, the park has been built near the historic homes once occupied by the Naval Base Admiral and officers, surrounded by graceful old oak trees and peaceful river vistas. Bordered by Noisette Creek, the park boasts a magnificent contemporary Performance Pavilion and Grand Lawn. Future plans include the Shipyard Memorial and Boardwalk. The North Charleston Cultural Arts Department can answer any questions regarding the July 4th Celebration, scheduled Summer events or rentals at Riverfront Park, call (843) 745-1087.
